Is it simply because the carton is airtight? And is there any intelligent packaging involved in a juice carton?
A juice carton is aseptic packaging which means it goes through this sterilisation process (both the juice and the carton) so that it doesn’t need to be in the fridge or have preservatives in it to stay germ and bacteria free.
